The Spoken Word
Passages drawn from the sermons and published works that carry this theme forward.
1852·Brigham Young·Prophet
This is my testimony. We have had the first principles of the Gospel laid before us this morning, and we have heard the testimony of one of the Apostles of the last days to confirm it. I am also a witness to the truth of these sayings contained in the New Testament.
1922·George F. Richards·Apostle
May the Lord bless those of us, who have embraced the gospel, and enable us to be true and faithful and may He have mercy upon those who are in spiritual darkness, and who have honest hearts, and lead them to hear, to understand, and to obey its truth ; I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.

Perhaps it was a certain kind of cleanliness — no more cigarets, no more liquor, no more tea. Perhaps it was the company they kept — the kind of company one ought to find in the Church. Perhaps it was their knowledge of the gospel, their assurance concerning the purpose of life. In any event, it was there, and it was inspiring.
1967·Joseph Fielding Smith·Apostle
Therefore, we should have the understanding when we read these epistles that the things said by the apostles are not things that apply to those who have not made covenants through the gospel of Jesus Christ and did not in that day. I am going to read a most definite, emphatic statement to members of the Church, some of whom had been drifting a little in that day, just as we do today, some of whom were not fully converted, and some of whom had forgotten the messages that the brethren taught to them and that they received when they came into the Church.
